New content = new books

The upcoming stage play and movies mean that we’re getting new source books. I’ve had to redo my September orders twice already because the publishers keep announcing new stuff every week. Here’s what’s available for pre-order so far (dates based on what the shops have announced), though I may have to edit this list soon because this is only stuff from Kadokawa Shoten.

TIGER&BUNNY THE LIVE Official Visual Fanbook
ISBN: 9784041102886
Publisher: Kadokawa Shoten
Release date: September 13th, 2012
Notes: Visual guide to the stage play. I don’t own any other stage play books so I’m not sure what all this’ll include, but there will be cast interviews for certain.

TIGER&BUNNY -The Beginning- SIDEa
ISBN: 9784041204405
Publisher: Kadokawa Shoten
Release date: September 26th, 2012
Notes: Manga of the first movie, art by Ohno Tsutomu. I’m not sure how many volumes this’ll be.

Theatrical Edition TIGER&BUNNY The Beginning Vol. 1
ISBN: 9784041102879
Publisher: Kadokawa Shoten
Release date: September 20th, 2012
Notes: Movie novelization, this will be at least two volumes. The writer is Takahashi Yuuya, based on Nishida’s scripts. (I’d have preferred if Nishida could have written these himself, but I think he’s too busy at the moment.)

That’s the stuff for the stage play and first movie, but there are also new books for the TV anime. I’m still debating whether or not to get these because I have KING OF WORKS and they don’t seem to offer anything new.

TV Anime TIGER&BUNNY Scenario Document Vol. 1
ISBN: 9784041102848
Publisher: Kadokawa Shoten
Release date: September 20th, 2012
Notes: Scripts for first cour (episodes 1-13) of the anime.

TV Anime TIGER&BUNNY Scenario Document Vol. 2
ISBN: 9784041103098
Publisher: Kadokawa Shoten
Release date: October 20th, 2012
Notes: Scripts for second cour (episodes 14-25) of the anime.

I order my books usually from CDJapan, but these should be available at most of the usual stores that sell other T&B and anime merchandise.

There’ll also be a new one-shot manga by Katsura Masakazu and Nishida Masafumi, the latest issue of Young Jump announced that Katsura has put ZETMAN on break so he can draw some Tiger & Bunny.

Update: Miracle Jump’s T&B serialization volume 1 has appeared on Amazon Japan.

ISBN: 9784088794228
Publisher: Shueisha
Release date: September 19th, 2012
Notes: Manga by Yoshida Erika (story) and Ueda Hiroshi (art), published in Miracle Jump magazine.

ISBN: 9784894571006
Size: 4 books, calendar and illustration in a box (8,5 cm x 41 cm x 29 cm, 4,7 kg)
Price: 5600 JPY

The “Definitive Blunt Instrument” as KING OF WORKS was dubbed was finally released on June 29th. Originally it was meant to be only half of the size than it what it turned out, so learning the final shipping cost caused much gnashing of teeth. Disregarding what it’ll cost to get this package to you, KING OF WORKS has an amazing amount of content for its price. Continue reading

The official site updated with a nice preview of the upcoming KING OF WORKS archive. The final look of the set might still change since this is a concept picture, but this gives a better idea of what you’re getting than just listing the things. And speaking of lists, here’s what the archive contains:

  1. Settings Collection (B4 size, 256 pages)
  2. Scripts Collection (B5 size, two volumes with 208 pages each)
  3. Original Illustrations Collection (B4 size, 144 pages)
  4. A box to hold all of it.
  5. Calendar (September 2012 to August 2013)
  6. Illustration of Kotetsu and Barnaby (no preview for that yet)

The total page count (without the calendar) is 816, and the price for all this is still the same as before, 5,880 JPY.

The Japanese fans are calling KING OF WORKS a “definitive blunt weapon”, and it’s going to be quite a hefty package. For comparison, this pile of books has 768 pages and it weighs almost exactly three (3) kilos:

Review: Katsura Masakazu x TIGER & BUNNY – Original Drawings & Rough Sketches Collection LIMITED VERSION

Katsura Masakazu x TIGER & BUNNY:
Original Drawings & Rough Sketches Collection
Publisher: Shueisha
ISBN: 9784089081532
Size: A4 / 176 pages
Price: 6800 JPY

I reviewed the regular edition of Tiger & Bunny’s character designer Katsura Masakazu‘s art book some time ago. I thought I wouldn’t be able to get the limited version because it was made to order and the preorders sold out in just two days. However, at least CDJapan has it in stock at the moment, so when my finances allowed I grabbed it before it sold out again.

The book itself has the same contents as the regular version, so please check out the earlier review for it. The ISBN number and print date are different on the limited version, and it also has “LIMITED VERSION” printed on the cover and title page. I’m a little bit disappointed that even the limited version isn’t hardcover, but the overall quality of the book is still excellent. Continue reading
